Fall in Lubbock doesn’t last long, but when the air cools and the trees start to change, a few parks remind us what autumn is supposed to look like. These are the spots where you can catch the color, enjoy the shade, and take a walk that actually feels like the fall season is here.
Higginbotham Park
📍 3202 Nashville Ave
Located just off 19th Street, Higginbotham Park is one of the easiest places in town to notice fall. The trees around the pond start turning gold early, and the mix of water, leaves, and open space makes it a calm and enjoyable walk. The loop trail is gravel but smooth enough for strollers and runs just under three-quarters of a mile (about 0.7 miles). There’s a playground and pickleball and basketball courts for spending time with friends or family. Around the loop are benches perfect for reading, relaxing, or sipping coffee. Parking is easy, with street access on both sides of the park. Tip: Go in the late afternoon when the sun hits the trees on the west side of the pond. The light makes the leaves glow and the pond sparkle. It’s the best time of day to visit.
Lubbock Arboretum
📍 4111 University Ave
The Lubbock Arboretum showcases a mix of trees, plants, and greenery you won’t find anywhere else in town. Its gardens are well kept, and in the fall, the colors make it one of the few places in Lubbock that truly feels like autumn. The trail is a combination of paved and gravel, which makes it accessible for strollers and easy for a relaxed walk. It’s a great place to have lunch, take photos, or spend time with the family. The Arboretum connects directly to Clapp Park, where there’s a playground and plenty of space for kids to run. There are two parking lots, making it convenient and easy to access. Tip: Bring a camera. It’s one of the best spots in Lubbock for family pictures, especially in the fall when the trees have color.
Hodges Park
📍 4011 N University Ave
Hodges Park is one of those places that just feels better in the fall. When the trees around the lake change and the water reflects the gold, it’s the perfect place for a walk and a stop to feed the ducks. The walking trail is fully concrete and stroller friendly, with benches and plenty of space all the way around the water. He-Brews Coffee, centered near the park, makes it easy to grab a drink, lunch, or treat during your walk. There are two large parking lots on each end of the lake, and street parking along the side. Tip: It’s the perfect morning walk. Grab a coffee from He-Brews and enjoy the cooler weather while it lasts.
Final Thoughts
Lubbock might not be known for dramatic fall colors, but these parks prove there’s still a season to enjoy. They’re local, peaceful, and perfect for when you want to feel like you’ve stepped out of town without leaving it. Our team at PROP Realty loves getting outside with our families, and these are a few of the spots we keep coming back to every fall.
